Medianeras for String Quartet – U.S. Premiere in Michigan, 2026
Medianeras (Sidewalls) is a piece for string quartet written in 2025, and scheduled to be premiered in the United States during 2026 in Michigan by Unison Chamber Music. The ensemble is formed by professional musicians specialized in bowed string performance and is dedicated to expanding the contemporary chamber music repertoire through the performance of new works. The piece is built around the idea of urban sidewalls as silent surfaces that divide, conceal, and reveal the traces of human life, the piece reflects on themes of isolation, density, and fragility within contemporary cities. Through subtle timbral changes, layered textures, and moments of tension and transparency, the work explres the presence of hidden structures, cracks, and small openings through which light and space unexpectedly emerge.
Recording Project with La Chile Big Band – Santiago de Chile, 2026
A new album is scheduled for release in 2026, to be recorded in Santiago de Chile by the La Chile Big Band, under the direction of the renowned musician Carl Hammond. The project will feature original compositions for jazz orchestra that integrate Afro-Peruvian traditions with rhythmic and stylistic influences from across Latin America, including musical elements from Peru, Brazil, Cuba, and Chile, combining contemporary jazz language with Latin American rhythmic structures and improvisational practices.
Artistic Residency in Composition – Ibermúsicas Program, Italy, 2022
In 2022, Sergio Salazar completed an artistic residency in music composition in Cittadella del Capo, Italy, under the mentorship of the renowned composer Luca Belcastro, after being selected by the Ibermúsicas program in 2021. During the residency, he developed advanced research and creative work based on the “Shared Creation Method,” exploring collaborative approaches to composition and expanding his artistic practice through interaction with international artists and the surrounding cultural environment of Calabria. As part of this process, he composed a new work premiered in 2022 at the Casa de la Paz Theater in Mexico City, performed by string quartet and piano. The piece later received international recognition and was selected for the IV Contemporary Music Festival in 2023 in Buenos Aires, organized by the Astor Piazzolla Conservatory of Music.
